Product Description

This small but comprehensive book offers a kind of short course on a lifestyle for ecumenism, a refreshing approach to Christian unity based on Chiara Lubich's spirituality of communion. Lubich develops a variety of principles but all share the same basis in humility, openness and respect for the other. Her methodology already has brought together thousands of people from many different traditions through the experience of profound mutual love.

What Chiara Lubich's writings and the whole witness of the Focolare Movement challenge us to is the discovery of what unity really means: not simply unity between believers, but the unity that alone will heal the terrible and murderous conflicts between human beings the world over.

Rowan Williams
Archbishop of Canterbury

This book by Chiara Lubich, founder and leader of the Focolare Movement which is committed to ecumenism all over the world, offers us profound and precious ideas, starting with that of the forsakenness of Jesus on the cross (see Mk 15: 34). The Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity receives it as a welcome support to its own efforts in favor of the unity of all the disciples of Christ.

Walter Cardinal Kasper
President of the Pontifical Council
for the Promotion of Christian Unity

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

In 1943 Chiara Lubich (1920-2008) founded the Focolare Movement, inspired by Jesus prayer on the eve of his death: May they all be one (Jn 17:21). Only in 1961 did the first ecumenical contacts begin. After that, starting with Lutheran Evangelicals, and then among Anglicans and Orthodox, the Focolare spirituality has spread to over 350 different churches.
